Second, the calibration step pairs the new battery's logic board to your phone over a Mac app; without it the cycle count reads as service-required forever. Third, the kit pays for itself versus shop labor only if you have three or four devices to do in a row.
Verdict: it's a real, working, end-to-end repair path. Whether it's *for you* depends on whether you enjoy this kind of thing. Most people will rather drop the phone at a Genius Bar. But the kit existing at all is a quiet win — and one we'd like to see other manufacturers steal.
